Data was stored in the user's local workspace, not on the server.

Groove relay servers tracked users' status, synchronizing any work a user had done offline as soon as the user reappeared with all others sharing that workspace, (or as soon as they came online again). "GrooveMonitor.exe" is a Microsoft utility introduced as part of "Groove", an application bundled with Office 2007, that enabled users working in diverse enterprises and nonprofits, and often offline, especially emergency relief field workers, to invite one another to share workspaces. The genuine GrooveMonitor.exe file is a software component of Microsoft Office 2007 or Microsoft OneDrive by Microsoft Corporation.
